Sheffield Wednesday have sold-out their ticket allocation for Monday’s League One play-off final with Barnsley. The Owls were initially given 36,634 tickets for the East End of Wembley before receiving an additional 1,355 on Wednesday afternoon.

But Wednesday, who created EFL play-off history by miraculously beating Peterborough United in the semi-finals, have confirmed almost 38,000 tickets have been snapped up after less than 60 hours of being on sale.

A statement on Wednesday’s official website: “The Owls’ allocation for the Sky Bet League One play-off final at Wembley on Monday has sold out. Following an incredibly busy three days of ticket sales, our allocation for the showpiece event in the capital has been snapped up.

“The club were originally issued with 36,634 tickets for the East End of Wembley before receiving an increase of 1,355 on Wednesday afternoon. Now, in less than 60 hours, and once online baskets have cleared, tickets are sold out thanks to your outstanding support!”

The club added that a commissioned a bespoke range of official Wednesday play-off final merchandise, with stock of tee-shirts, polos and scarves will be available online and from the club’s Megastore from 10am today.

A place in next season’s Championship will be on the line when the South Yorkshire clubs meet in the showpiece fixture. Supporters planning to travel by train have been warned to expect “extremely busy services”. Engineering work is due to begin on the Midland Mainline this Saturday, with East Midlands Railway (EMR) saying works will “significantly affect” services between May 27 and June 11.
